Cookie Policy

Last updated: June 2026

This Cookie Policy explains what cookies are, which cookies Survex uses, and why. We keep this simple because Survex only uses cookies that are strictly necessary to operate the platform. We do not use advertising cookies, tracking pixels, or third-party analytics. Payments on Survex are handled through TradeSafe escrow — TradeSafe processes transactions on their own secure platform and may set their own cookies during the payment flow, which are governed by TradeSafe's own cookie and privacy policy.

1What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files placed on your device (computer, phone, or tablet) by a website when you visit it. They allow the website to remember your actions and preferences — such as your login state — over a period of time so you don't have to re-enter them every time you visit or navigate between pages.

Cookies can be session cookies (deleted when you close your browser) or persistent cookies (stored for a set period). They can also be first-party (set by the website you are visiting) or third-party (set by a different domain, often for advertising). Survex only sets first-party cookies.

2Cookies Survex sets

Survex sets the following two cookies. Neither contains advertising identifiers or is shared with any marketing network.

sb-[project]-auth-tokenSurvex (via Supabase Auth)
Strictly necessary
PurposeStores your encrypted login session so you remain signed in as you navigate Survex. Contains your user ID and session token — no personally identifiable information is stored in plaintext inside the cookie itself.
DurationUp to 7 days, refreshed automatically on each visit
survex_return_toSurvex
Strictly necessary / Functional
PurposeTemporarily saves the page you were trying to visit before being redirected to complete your profile, so you are returned there immediately afterwards. Contains only a URL path — no personal data.
Duration1 hour

The session cookie name includes a short project identifier unique to Survex's authentication server. Variants such as sb-[project]-auth-token.0 and .1 may appear if the session data is split across multiple cookies for technical reasons — they serve the same purpose.

3Cookies we do NOT use

To be completely transparent, the following technologies are not present on the Survex platform:

  • Google Analytics or Google Tag Manager
  • Facebook Pixel or any Meta tracking
  • Hotjar, FullStory, or any session-recording tools
  • HubSpot, Mailchimp, or marketing automation cookies
  • Any advertising network cookies
  • Any third-party live-chat widgets
  • Stripe (Survex uses Peach Payments, which processes on their own domain)

4Why we don't need your consent for these cookies

Under South African data protection law (POPIA) and broadly accepted international standards, cookies that are strictly necessary to provide a service you have requested do not require opt-in consent. Both cookies Survex sets fall into this category:

  • The session cookie is required for you to stay logged in. Without it, you would be signed out on every click.
  • The return-path cookie is required to fulfil the onboarding redirect you triggered by visiting a listing page before completing your profile.

By agreeing to our Terms and Cookie Policy at sign-up, you acknowledge these necessary cookies. If in the future we introduce any non-essential cookies, we will update this policy and obtain your explicit consent before setting them.

5Managing and deleting cookies

You can control and delete cookies through your browser settings. Instructions vary by browser:

  • Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data
  • Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
  • Safari: Preferences → Privacy → Manage Website Data
  • Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions

Please note: if you block or delete Survex's cookies, you will not be able to stay signed in. Core functionality such as placing orders, managing listings, and accessing your dashboard will not work without the session cookie.

6Changes to this policy

If we introduce new cookies or change how existing ones work, we will update this page and revise the “Last updated” date above. If any new cookie is non-essential, we will notify you and request your consent before it is set.
